LeadMN Leadership Scholarship

Scholarship Sponsored by LeadMN

Value: $1,250.00
Awards Available: 4
Deadline : Nov 01, 2026

Intro The LeadMN Leadership Scholarship recognizes undergraduate students who combine strong academics with active community leadership. Award recipients have supported their communities in a variety of ways — for example, mentoring Head Start children, coordinating youth programs, or volunteering as translators. The scholarship is worth $1,250 and is granted twice each academic year (once for the fall term and once for the spring term). Fall applications open January 1; spring applications open July 1. Applications close at 11:59 p.m. on the posted due dates.

Who is eligible

  • Must be currently enrolled at one of the 33 Minnesota State Colleges or Universities.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must be an undergraduate student who demonstrates leadership and a dedication to service.
  • Graduate students and PSEO students are not eligible.
  • Members of the LeadMN Board of Directors and members of the Executive Board are ineligible for this scholarship.

Application requirements Applicants must complete and submit the online application and provide all of the following items:

  • Two essays, each 300–600 words:

    1. Describe your understanding of leadership and support your perspective with personal examples. Examples can include your own leadership experiences, leaders who have influenced you, or people whose actions shaped your ideas about leadership.
    2. Explain what a college education means to you and how receiving this scholarship would support your development as a leader.
  • A list of 3–5 leadership skills, described in your own words, with one or two examples of how you have applied each skill in these areas: (1) education, (2) community, and (3) employment.

  • A leadership biography summarizing your leadership roles and how you used leadership skills in those positions. Include at least one specific role, the skills required in that role and how you applied them, and examples of improvements, achievements, or promotions resulting from your leadership.

  • One letter of recommendation from a community, campus, or organizational leader who can speak to your leadership abilities (the application text notes that one letter should be from a peer).

  • A copy of your unofficial school transcript.

Please be sure all parts of the application are submitted before the 11:59 p.m. deadline on the announced due date.
