Intro The AMVETS National Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship is intended to acknowledge and support students who demonstrate financial need, academic achievement and future potential; to encourage recruitment of highly qualified individuals into today’s workforce; and to reflect the engagement of a National Service Organization and its members. Scholarship winners are selected and announced at the AMVETS National Convention each August. Awards available include up to two (2) scholarships of $1,000 each and as many as five (5) scholarships of $750 each.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be either a current member of the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary or the son, daughter, step‑son, step‑daughter, grandchild, or step‑grandchild of a current AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary member.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in at least the second year of undergraduate study at an accredited college or university.

Required application materials

  • Essay: 200–500 words describing past accomplishments, career and educational goals, and future objectives. (Minimum 200 words; maximum 500 words.)
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation from non‑family members. Each letter must be signed and dated within one year of the application date. PDF versions with verified signatures are acceptable.
  • An official copy of the most recent transcript showing cumulative grade average and an explanation of the grading system; this transcript must be submitted in a sealed envelope.
  • A copy of the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary member’s current membership card.
  • Completed Application Form (ensure the bottom of the form displays the current year).
  • Signed Privacy Act Form.
  • If the applicant is transferring to or changing schools, include a letter of acceptance on official college/university letterhead.

Evaluation criteria (weighting)

  • NEED — 45%: Financial information provided on the application regarding the applicant and family, and the demonstrated financial need of the applicant.
  • SCHOLARSHIP — 15%: Academic record, including semester averages for courses taken in the previous semester(s) and an explanation of the grading system.
  • AIM — 25%: Quality and content of the student essay (200–500 words).
  • PRESENTATION — 15%: Three letters of reference addressing the student’s potential in their chosen field; letters must be signed and dated (PDF verified signatures acceptable).

Selection and award All applications will be reviewed and judged according to the criteria above. Scholarship recipients are chosen and awards are presented at the National Convention in August.
