Daniel Triano Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association
Introduction
The Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association (AAHA), the Atlantic Affiliate of USA Hockey, offers the Daniel Triano Memorial Scholarship to a student-official who intends to pursue education beyond high school and who is an active member of USA Hockey Officiating within the AAHA.
Award
One non-renewable scholarship of $1,000 is available to a high school senior who is registered with USA Hockey and currently officiates on the ice for AAHA.
About Daniel Triano
Daniel was a Level 2 official who tragically died in an automobile accident on June 15, 2016, at the age of 17. A native of Kenilworth, NJ, Daniel skated for the New Jersey Devils Youth Club for 12 years and was a three-year varsity player for Jonathan Dayton High School. He also gave his time as a junior coach for the New Jersey Dare Devils, a program serving players with special needs. Daniel was a devoted son and brother, a loyal teammate, and a compassionate friend; those who knew him remember his kindness and respect for others.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be a high school senior residing in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Delaware.
- Be currently registered with USA Hockey.
- Be an active on-ice official within the AAHA.
- Selection is made without regard to race, sex, religion, or financial need.
Selection and Evaluation
Scholarships are non-renewable. Decisions by the Scholarship Committee are final. Candidates will be evaluated on:
- High school transcript (including grades, GPA, and class rank)
- Standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, or equivalent)
- A typed essay (500 words or fewer) addressing: “The Value of Officiating Hockey to My Personal Development.”
Notification and Acceptance
Scholarship recipients will be notified in May via the email address provided on their application. Only selected awardees will receive notification. Each recipient must accept the award in writing by the deadline specified in their notification letter and must provide a copy of that acceptance to the college or institution they plan to attend.
Application Procedure
Complete the online application and upload all required documents. Attachments must be clearly labeled with your full name and document type (for example: Jim Smith—Transcript; Jim Smith—Essay). Applications that do not follow these instructions will not be reviewed.

- Headshot photo in .jpg format (used if selected for the announcement)
- Typed essay (500 words or less)
Deadline
All application materials and letters of recommendation must be submitted by Friday, April 3rd.
