UCB Family Epilepsy Scholarship Program
Scholarship Sponsored by UCB, Inc.
Overview
UCB is offering a total of 33 scholarships to support higher education for people affected by epilepsy: 30 awards of up to $5,000 and 3 awards of up to $10,000. Eligible applicants include people living with epilepsy, as well as their family members and caregivers who are pursuing postsecondary education.
Scholarship breakdown
- Thirty recipients will be chosen to receive scholarships of up to $5,000 each based on academic and personal accomplishments.
- Two recipients will be granted Epilepsy Leader Scholarships (up to $10,000 each) established in honor of the late Sandra Helmers, MD, MPH, and the late John M. Pellock, MD—both influential members of the epilepsy community who died in 2016.
- One recipient will receive the Joe D’Souza Memorial Scholarship (up to $10,000), a prize created in 2019 to commemorate UCB’s global medical director.
Selection qualities
All awardees will be selected for demonstrated scholarly and personal achievements. In addition, candidates for the Epilepsy Leader Scholarships and the Joe D’Souza Memorial Scholarship should reflect qualities associated with Drs. Helmers and Pellock: a commitment to advocacy and service, a desire to make a positive impact within the epilepsy community, and resilience.
