Introduction The Blue Water Scholarship Fund supports students pursuing U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) license programs at one of the five State Maritime Academies. Below are the qualifications and policies applicants must understand before applying.
Eligibility
- The application must be completed and submitted by the student applicant personally — parents or guardians should not fill it out for them.
- Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
- Candidates must be enrolled in a program that leads to a USCG license at one of these state maritime academies: California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, or Texas. Programs that do not include the USCG license component are ineligible.
- Applicants should show strong personal initiative and motivation, demonstrated not only by academic performance but also through extracurricular involvement such as athletics, community service, employment, clubs, or similar activities.
- In addition to scholastic achievement, ideal candidates will exhibit strong interpersonal abilities and emotional intelligence.
- Blue Water Scholarship Fund may request further evaluation through in-person or telephone interviews to assess an applicant’s fit.
- All applicants must be U.S. citizens and provide acceptable proof of citizenship.
Exceptions and Discretion Blue Water Scholarship Fund retains the right to waive any of the stated eligibility requirements in exceptional cases at its sole discretion.
Award Terms and Renewals Scholarships are typically awarded as one-time grants. Consideration for renewal in subsequent years may be given, contingent on the applicant’s academic progress and personal achievements since the prior award or application. Prior receipt of a BWSF award does not create an entitlement to future funding. All award decisions are final and made at the sole discretion of Blue Water Scholarship Fund.
