Introduction
The First Generation in College Scholarship is a merit-based, single-award grant for flutists who are either currently enrolled in or have been accepted to an accredited college, university, or conservatory within the United States. Applicants must be first-generation college students according to the program’s definition, be pursuing an undergraduate degree in music with the flute as their principal instrument, and satisfy the eligibility rules below.

Award Details
One recipient will receive a one-time cash award of $2,000. These funds may be used for flute-related tuition or other educational expenses, and may also be applied to associated costs such as housing, meals, travel, or instructional materials. The winner will additionally receive personalized career mentorship with a member of the Career and Artistic Development Committee throughout the academic year and a one-year membership in the National Flute Association (NFA) to access its professional and educational benefits.

Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the First Generation in College Flute Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following conditions:
- Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident.
- Be younger than 25 years old as of the application deadline.
- Be enrolled full-time (or have been accepted for full-time enrollment) in an accredited U.S. college, university, or conservatory as an undergraduate music major for the upcoming academic year, with the flute designated as the primary instrument.
- Current college students at the freshman, sophomore, junior, or rising senior level are eligible to apply. High school seniors who have completed the audition and admissions process and have been admitted to a U.S. collegiate music program are also eligible.
- Applicants must meet the program’s definition of a first-generation college student.

Restrictions
An applicant may not receive both the First Generation in College Scholarship and the Frances Blaisdell Convention Scholarship within the same calendar year.
